With regular maintenance your computer should give many years of service. Here are a few tips to help keep your computer healthy: -

• Keep your software up to date with latest patches (e.g. Microsoft Update).
• Install a firewall to keep out unwanted intruders (see Useful Links for free examples).
• Install an Anti-Virus program and scan your PC regularly (see Useful Links for free examples).
• Run a disk clean-up utility (such as Microsoft Disk Cleanup found in Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools menu) regularly to delete unnecessary files.
• Back-up your data regularly.
• Never open email attachments from people you don't know.
• Never turn your computer off at the plug before it has shut down properly.
• Keep any air intakes and fans free from dust and obstructions to stop your computer overheating
